Liputan6.com, Jakarta pursue art world has become a hobby that many people do. Feeling happy until satisfied is a feeling you get after doing it.
It turns out that honing creativity in the art world does have unexpected benefits for you mental health and also physical.
“Creativity itself is important to stay healthy. Stay connected to yourself and connected to the world,” said Christianne Strang, professor of neuroscience at the University of Alabama Birmingham. NPR, Thursday (6/1/2022).
Creative ideas can also extend to many things such as drawing, paint, make collages, sculpt clay, write poetry, decorate cakes, knit, make scrapbooks, and much more.
Drexel University professor and researcher in art therapy, Girija Kaimal says that anything that involves the creative mind is a good thing for us.
By honing these skills, a person is judged to be able to find new ways to workcommunication. Moreover, according to Girija, art can actually be for anyone.
“Art is for everyone and regardless of skill level, it’s something you should try to do on a regular basis because it has many benefits,” says Girija.
Then, what are the benefits? Here’s the explanation.
1. Sharpen the brain
“The ability of art can flex our imagination, that may be one of the reasons why we have been making art since ancient times,” said Girija.
Girija also wrote about the benefits of this one art in Journal of American Art Therapy Association. According to him, art helps us to navigate problems that may arise in the future.
The theory was developed from the idea that the brain is actually a prediction machine. Brain use information to make predictions about what we will do next, including when we are creating art.
“When you make artworks, you are actually making a series of decisions. What kind of tools are used, what colors, how to translate them on paper or canvas to finally become a work to be interpreted,” said Girija.
