The results of a study published in the online journal BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care were obtained after researchers analyzed the health of 4,923 people in Japan.

Study participants were followed for five years and asked to complete a questionnaire.

The questionnaire contained 58 questions about eating and drinking habits including the amount of green tea and coffee drunk each day.

Study participants also provided information about exercise routines, smoking or drinking alcohol habits, and sleep times.

The analysis showed that participants who regularly drank one or both of these drinks had a lower risk of death regardless of the cause.

The researchers further explained that those who drank one cup of green tea per day had a 15 percent lower risk of death.

In participants who drank two to three cups of green tea, the risk of death was 27 percent lower.

“The risk of death was even lower for those who drank green tea and coffee every day,” wrote the researcher in his official statement as quoted Fox News.
