Since the start of the pandemic, we have been bombarded with contamination figures, R-values and other data on a daily basis, but mental well-being is a bit overlooked, critics say. And that is right, says Minister Vandenbroucke. “I constantly receive reports on my mobile phone about infections and admissions, but never about mental well-being. That must change in the short term. We are now working on a dashboard on mental wellbeing. But that is partly too late, I admit. ”
The minister also believes that, despite the many problems that the vaccination campaign already encountered, ‘the Empire of Freedom’ is really in sight. “I said that in parliament at the beginning of January. I was so happy that the vaccination plan was ready. That gave me hope. But then I was talking about fall. And that is still my hope. ” The minister cannot give a specific date. He does hope that seven out of ten people will have been vaccinated by the autumn. “What should certainly succeed before the summer is vaccinating all vulnerable groups. That will be the tipping point. Then the pressure on our care will be less and we can afford a little more. Freedom will come in steps. ”
