In a word: researching cancer

What’s up this week?

The semester has started, so internship courses and I take care of students.

What do you like about the subject in which you are doing your doctorate?

My favorite topic is looking at cancer from an interdisciplinary perspective. Coming from materials science, I find it exciting to look at a cellular disease from a physical point of view. This is because in most cases cells show changes in their mechanical and physical behavior.

And what bothers you?

Sometimes it is difficult to convince scientists from other disciplines to look at new aspects and to be cooperative. Materials scientists sometimes find it difficult to deal with biomaterials. They prefer topics like solar cells, lithium batteries and the like. I had several suggestions about cellular diseases that were not even listened to. However, I get support from my professor.

What have you always wanted to say to your university president?
