Amazon buys the messaging service Wickr, the podcast platform Art 19 and next year will show the games of the French first division with Neymar, Volland and Co.
Amazon Web Services buys the messaging service Wickr
Amazon’s cloud company Amazon Web Services (AWS) takes over Wickr. The company offers a messenger with end-to-end encryption especially for government and military agencies as well as other companies, as reported by Techcrunch. The purchase price remains secret. “With the transition to hybrid work environments, partly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses and government agencies have a growing need to protect their communications across many remote locations. Wickr’s secure communications solutions help companies and government agencies adapt to these changes in their work environments and are a welcome addition to the growing number of collaboration and productivity services that AWS customers and partners offer, ”said Stephen Schmidt of AWS.
Amazon takes over the podcast platform Art19
Amazon acquires Art19, a hosting and advertising platform for podcasts, as reported by The Verge. Here, too, the purchase price is not mentioned. Amazon integrates Art19 into its Amazon Music offering. The online giant has been expanding its German podcast range since September 2020 and also bought the US provider Wondery at the beginning of the year.
Amazon shows French Ligue 1 games
Amazon has acquired the broadcast rights for the French premier soccer league, Ligue 1, reports the Faz. The online giant pays “only” 250 million euros for this because the previous rights holder Mediapro went bankrupt. Amazon beat out the French TV broadcaster Canal + and shows 80 percent of the games. In France, Amazon’s Prime service, which is believed to be showing the games, has ten million subscribers. The German players Julian Draxler and Thilo Kehrer (Paris Saint-Germain) and Kevin Volland (AS Monaco) play in the French Ligue 1.
