WhatsApp is consistently the most used application of the so-called instant messaging (IM) or chat applications. According to data from the summer of 2022, WhatsApp has over 2 billion monthly active users. And as the number of users grows, so does the variety of devices WhatsApp is available on. However, every year, a portion of supported phones lose support.
WhatsApp is ending support
From 1 January 2023, new conditions will apply to WhatsApp which stipulate that the application requires the Android 5.0 Lollipop or iOS 12 operating system. For this reason, at least 47 smartphones introduced between 2011 and 2013 will no longer be supported by the update. These mobile phones have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or iOS 11 and below.

But what does it mean that the phone will lose support? Indeed, WhatsApp will stop working on this device from January 1, 2023, it will lose its connection to the Internet and it will not be possible to send or receive messages or make calls through it. The only viable solution is to switch to a smartphone running iOS 12 and above or Android 5.0 Lollipop and above.
