New details are known why Colombia lost the 2027 Pan American Games. In principle, in November the Ministry of Sports did have the 8 million dollars to make the payment, but it did not do so.

According to information from La FM, in November 2023 a document was released in which it was made clear that the National Government had USD8 million to pay the obligation that had been acquired with Panam Sports, but that the Government failed to comply.

“Minister Astrid Bibiana Rodríguez reiterates that the Ministry has the 8 million dollars, which must be transferred in December, and proposes the Colombian Olympic Committee, as a temporary operator to be able to transfer the resources”points out one of the sections of the document distributed by this media.

This new preparatory meeting was attended not only by the Minister of Sports, but also by the governor of Atlántico, Elsa Noguera, the president of the Colombian Olympic Committee, Ciro Solano, the mayor of Barranquilla, Jaime Pumarejo and the president of the Paralympic Committee, Julio Cesar Ávila.

In five pages, together with the Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla and the Colombian Olympic Committee, it was also discussed what the steps to follow would be after that meeting, which took place just one month before the deadline for the payment of the USD8 million.

“The president of the Colombian Paralympic committee, Julio Cesar Ávila, requests that a person be taken into account for the Operating Committee and reminds that the agreement must be signed with the Paralympic Committee of the Americas,” Adds the minutes of the meeting.
