The security and privacy problems suffered by many Facebook users are commonplace and although in some cases it is due to the lack of knowledge of the users, the company is also responsible. That is why Facebook continues to work to further improve the security and privacy of the users of this social network.
In an interview carried out by the Axios publication, Facebook’s head of security policies, Nathaniel Gleicher, commented that starting next year the social network will launch support for security tokens (hardware keys) for all users who want to add another layer of security to their connection with the social network. For those who do not know, these hardware keys are an extra layer of security that allow authenticating the user who owns them in order to connect to their account.
The social network is thinking of sending security keys to public figures, such as politicians, while other users will have the possibility to buy their keys online or through physical stores that sell these types of keys. Then, the holders of a security token will be able to register it with Facebook to be able to authenticate more securely.
Likewise, this does not mean that a security key of this type is infallible, since one can lose it or it can be stolen in order to access their account, but all this does not mean that it is something that greatly improves the security and privacy of the user. .
Facebook Protect
Gleicher also commented that the security program Facebook Protect it will be offered to other types of users. This program includes additional security measures to those already available, such as two-factor authentication and real-time monitoring of accounts that have the potential to be attacked.
Starting next year, this program will be available to users such as celebrities, human rights defenders and journalists, as well as some users in countries where important elections are held, such as the presidential election that was held here in the United States at the beginning of Last November. For this election, various politicians, government agencies and others related to the electoral process had the options offered by the Facebook Protect program available.
