Mexico City. The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) will apply one million 317 thousand 329 pneumococcal vaccines as part of the Universal Vaccination Sector Program 2023 to children under one year of age, with the purpose of protecting them against diseases caused by pneumococcus.
Within the framework of World Pneumonia Day, Dr. Iván Medina Mora, pulmonologist assigned to the Regional General Hospital number 72 of the IMSS, indicated that in the face of symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, increased respiratory and heart rate, cough, reduction in appetite and sinking in the ribs when breathing – in the case of minors – it is important to go to a medical evaluation or the emergency service, as it could be said disease.
He explained that pneumonia is a disease that causes inflammation in the lungs and produces fluid or pus in the alveolar sacs, which interferes with the proper functioning of these organs.
He recommended avoiding self-medication, washing your hands, using a face mask and isolating yourself if you have respiratory symptoms.
Medina Mora pointed out that for the treatment of pneumonia, in Social Security it begins from the suspicion of the disease, even before obtaining the results of the studies (such as chest x-rays), taking into account factors such as age group, symptoms and the evolution time.
He explained that the transmission of this pathology occurs mainly from person to person, with someone who starts or has symptoms and does not have adequate isolation, this is through Flugge droplets towards the nose or mouth, coming from sneezing or cough from someone who is infected.
