IMSS launches COVID 4.0 permit to grant temporary disabilities to infected workers

• To process it, it is not necessary to take a COVID-19 test and workers will receive a subsidy of 60 percent of the salary registered in the IMSS during the fourth and fifth days of disability.
• Through a QR Code, you can enter identification data and receive confirmation of the permit by mail, which you have to notify your company and works exactly like any other temporary disability.

In order to make it easier for affiliated workers to process their disability due to COVID-19 infection without having to go to the doctor and break the chains of contagion, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) activated this July 6 the digital tool COVID-19 permit, in its version 4.0.

Through a QR Code that will be available at www.imss.gob.mx, in the IMSS Digital application for smartphones, as well as in all medical units, workers will be able to enter their data and receive confirmation of their permit by mail, the which they have to notify their company and it works exactly like any other temporary disability.

“The COVID 4.0 permit is a service provided by the Institute for affiliated workers. Its purpose is to help them quickly work on their disability without having to go to the doctor, without having to take a test and receive directly electronically the notification of the general sickness benefit that corresponds to them.

“The idea is that we stay at home, minimize the chains of contagion and thus reduce this fifth transmission peak that we have in Mexico,” explained the director of Economic and Social Benefits of the IMSS, Dr. Mauricio Hernández Ávila.

In order to process their disability, the worker must capture the captcha that is displayed on the screen and then enter personal data, their CURP, Social Security Number, INE and a positive COVID test, if they have one; all this in PDF or JPG format.

Once the information is entered, the program interacts with the worker and asks for bank details, CLABE account is entered and confirmation is made as to whether they want to take the COVID permit.

The worker will be given legal permission to be absent for five days and receive a subsidy -as occurs in general illness- of 60 percent of the salary registered in the IMSS during the fourth and fifth days of disability; Payment will be made to the registered account and once the request has been processed, it cannot be cancelled.

“Our predictions tell us that in the week of July 17 we will have the highest season of transmission in this fifth peak, which I would like to clarify that it is not at all like it was in the first nine weeks of the year, it is less but of all ways we have to reduce the chains of transmission,” said Dr. Hernández Ávila.

If a worker already had a previous COVID permit, they can re-process another permit, with the variant that the first was for 14 days, after seven and it is currently granted for five days of protection.

“You are given proof of temporary disability, very similar to what is provided to the worker when he goes to the doctor and the same doctor prescribes temporary disability. This really is an innovation of the Institute to make it easier for workers to shelter at home and thus lower the chains of contagion, because in the end the worker also has to go to the bank, to the Family Medicine Unit, return, take the test and already had 10 or 15 contacts on that journey, so the idea is to stay at home”, said the director of Economic and Social Benefits.

In the previous version of the COVID permit, almost one and a half million workers processed their disability; Of these, approximately 350,000 did so digitally, while the average age at which it was requested was 28 years, with entities such as Mexico City, Nuevo León, Jalisco and the State of Mexico having the highest number of applications. requests.

Although respiratory symptoms due to SARS-CoV-2 are currently milder in the country, in cases where the worker does not recover on the fifth day, the recommendation is to go to the corresponding Family Medicine Unit (UMF). or to the emergency room.

The IMSS makes a call so that, after going through their recovery period in isolation, people return to work in their work areas with the follow-up of sanitary measures, such as the proper use of face masks, hand washing with soap and water. or application of 70 percent alcohol gel, and social distancing of at least 1.5 meters.

To request more information about the permit, workers can contact the Call Center at 800 2222 668, option 0.
