The first multi-organ donation of 2023 was made at clinic 110 of the IMSS Jalisco, with this it will be possible to transplant corneas, kidneys and liver.
The donor is a woman who was diagnosed with brain death, which is why her family decided to donate the patient’s organs, whose age was not specified.
The donation will benefit five people who were on the waiting list for an organ, according to Ana Cecilia Grande Torres, hospital coordinator for Organ and Tissue Donation for Transplantation Purposes, at the Regional General Hospital No. 110 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security in Jalisco.
The kidneys and corneas will be transplanted at the IMSS National Western Medical Center in Jalisco, while the liver will be sent to the Naval Medical Center in Mexico City.
Organ procurement in 2022 and 2023 carried out at clinic 110.
- During 2022, 25 organ and tissue procurements: one multi-organ, another multi-tissue, and 23 cornea.
- So far in 2023, 13 procurations have been carried out, one of them multi-organ.
Derived from another 21-year-old donor, originally from Chihuahua, on March 11, Jalisco was the recipient of a liver and corneas. The liver was sent to the Hospital de Especialidades and the corneas to the Hospital de Pediatría, both from the IMSS National Western Medical Center in Guadalajara.
After being diagnosed with brain death, the young man’s family decided to donate his organs. In addition to the liver and corneas, it was possible to transplant the heart to a 46-year-old woman from Mexico City, while the kidneys benefited patients from the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition ‘Salvador Zubirán’, also in the country’s capital .
