IMSS exceeded goals from recovery of medical services in 2021 As he announced through a press release issued this Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, El Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) he was forced to defer medical services.

However, thanks to the organization of the staff, he managed to recover them throughout the past 2021, providing millions of different services.

Consultations and disease detection increased compared to 2020

Was the same IMSS who planned the Recovery Strategy for Ordinary Services; with it, it was possible to optimize the infrastructure in all shifts.

This in addition to reinforcing with 14 Journeys Nationals and diverse Monothematic Days consultations in Family Medicine, Specialties, surgeries and studies for the detection of diabetes, hypertension, breast and cervical-uterine cancer.

It is in this way that throughout 2021 and compared to 2020 it was possible to increase:

• 12 million 315 thousand 476 Family Medicine consultations.
• 3 million 654 thousand 705 specialty consultations.
• One million 835 thousand 119 emergency consultations.
• 181 thousand 005 surgeries.
• 560,063 hospital discharges.

In the same way, the detection of the following diseases was achieved:

• 2 million 074 thousand 882 detections of diabetes mellitus.
• One million 526 thousand 320 of arterial hypertension.
• One million 177 thousand 021 of breast cancer by clinical examination and 412 thousand 535 more by mammography.
• 743 thousand 127 of cervical cancer.

The progress of the recovery of IMSS medical services as of December 25, 2021

Despite the complications that arose from the Covid-19 pandemic, the IMSS did not stop its operations. The strategy used has even been classified as a national example that will continue in the coming years.

It should be noted that this was achieved thanks to the leadership of the director general of the IMSS, Master Zoé Robledo, the managerial and operational staff of the Institute’s Representation Offices in the states, High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE) and the Directorate of Medical Benefits,

It was in this way that as of December 25, 2021, the following had been carried out:

• 13.6 million Specialty Queries.
• 78.7 million from Family Medicine.
• 2 million 488 thousand 126 of dental type.
• One million 33 thousand 086 surgeries.
• 2 million 117 thousand 417 hospital discharges.

In the same way, more than 1,800 transplants were carried out, mainly kidney, cornea and heart. Always following biosafety protocols to avoid COVID-19 infections.

While in the case of the prevention of the main chronic diseases, the ideal detection of

• 2 million 149 thousand 799 cases of cervical cancer.
• 5.9 million cases of diabetes.
• 14.6 million cases of high blood pressure.

While for breast cancer cases, the following was done:

• One million 075 thousand 319 mastographies.
• 4 million 262 thousand 959 explorations.

It is important to mention that actions were carried out throughout the year in the 35 Social Security Representations in the states and 25 High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE)

This is thanks to the efforts of the general direction of the Institute, the Directorate of Medical Benefits, the directive and operational personnel and state representations.

The implementation of the Ordinary Services Recovery Strategy began on April 1, 2021

After the decline of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic began, the IMSS identified consultations, surgeries and screenings with a greater lag due to the hospital reconversion for the care of patients with respiratory infections.

It was then that the Ordinary Services Recovery Strategy was implemented, which began as of April 1, 2021.

From April to August a Monthly National Day was scheduled. While from September to December two were implemented.

This in order to streamline care and take advantage of infrastructure and human resources.

For their part, each Representation of the Institute in the states and UMAE identified their main recovery needs.

In addition to the fact that through the Monothematic Conferences they provided services in specialties with greater deferral. Some of the most prominent were:

• Ophthalmological Surgery.
• General Surgery, Traumatology.
• Internal Medicine Consultations.
• Cardiology.

Finally, as a result of these Conference, which had a cut-off date of December 19, two million 837 thousand 324 visits were carried out in Specialty Consultations and Family Medicine, surgeries and breast cancer detections (exploration and mammography) , cervico-uterine cancer, diabetes and hypertension.

It is also important to mention that along with the recovery of medical services, the care of patients with Covid-19 and the services that are provided on a common day were continued.

The latter means: 404 thousand 118 consultations, of which 303 thousand 469 are Family Medicine, 54 thousand 335 Specialties, 9 thousand 938 dental and 36 thousand 916 Emergency services.

Finally, throughout 2021, the IMSS hospital network attended on average

• 832 deliveries.
• Two thousand 852 surgeries.
• 710 thousand 350 clinical analyzes.
• 50,768 Radiodiagnosis studies.
• 11,338 of Ecosonography.
• 6 thousand 668 of Tomography.
• 237 of Cardiopulmonary Physiology.
• 901 Magnetic Resonance.
• 15,401 Inhalotherapy sessions.
• Mil 844 of Radiotherapy.
• Seven thousand 529 of Hemodialysis.
• 21,215 of Physical Medicine.
• 48 thousand of Nuclear Medicine.
