Invites IMSS BCS to donate blood altruistically
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Baja California Sur calls on the population to donate blood altruistically.
La Paz, Baja California Sur, (OEM-Informex).- The assistant coordinator of the Second Level of Care, Dr. Rosario López Azotla, pointed out that donating blood is donating life, since transfusions are not only part of the treatment of certain diseases, They also save lives in extremely serious medical situations, such as cases of haemorrhage from traffic accidents.
He indicated that each person has approximately five liters of blood that the heart drives through the arteries to reach all the tissues of the body and recover, through the veins after being oxygenated in the lungs.

The health expert pointed out that blood has different components such as: plasma, platelets and red blood cells, all of them have specific functions and indications.
He pointed out that blood has different vital functions: platelets favor coagulation and, therefore, it is the tamponade of wounds, thus stopping bleeding.
Red blood cells carry the oxygen obtained as it passes through the lungs to all the cells of the body. Plasma carries the nutrients and water needed to feed the tissues.
In the same way, he said that the blood also contributes to maintaining the balance of liquids in the organism and transports the hormones secreted by the different glands of the organism and that fulfill important regulatory functions.
Lopez Azotla commented that all these functions are vital for the body, which is why there is a need for blood to infuse patients who for one reason or another have lost a lot of blood or this has some deficiencies that can only be corrected through a transfusion.
In this sense, the IMSS in BCS invites you to donate blood if you or one of your relatives is going to have surgery or have a disease that requires constant use of blood.
People interested in donating must meet the requirements, such as fasting for at least four to six hours, be between 18 and 65 years old, as well as a minimum weight of 50 kilograms, not be tattooed or take medications, have no risk factors such as the use of intravenous drugs or risky sexual practices and come with an official identification on the day of the donation. He mentioned that the safety of the patients who are transfused depends both on the correct medical selection, as well as on the meticulous laboratory analysis to which each unit of blood extracted is submitted. Donors are preselected through a meticulous previous blood analysis and a questionnaire to find out which medications you are taking, if you have had urinary infections in the last 15 days, or have been in contact with patients with hepatitis in the last year, among other questions.
450 milliliters that are extracted from a blood donor constitute a help for three people, since platelets, plasma and red blood cells are obtained.
In this sense, Rosario López, assistant coordinator of the Second Level of Attention, invited the population to donate blood and thereby save lives.
