MEXICO CITY, Dec. 10 (EL UNIVERSAL).- The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), together with the Secretariat of (SSA) and the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), has applied 613 thousand 100 vaccines, both in the ordinary regime and IMSS-Benessere, which took place from 22 November to 9 December.
IMSS Disease Detection and Prevention Division Medical Programs Coordinator, Dr. Rodrigo Guadalupe Ojeda Escoto, stressed that about 6,000 workers of the Institute participated in the application of biologicals, most of them nursing staff.
“The importance lies in providing protection through vaccination as recommended by the World Health Organization, to help reduce the incidence of HPV infection in women, starting in this case with 13- and 14-year-old adolescents. , which is the target group of this campaign,” he said.
He stressed that vaccination is sectoral, so all the institutions that make up the health sector participated, while in Mexico City, biologicals were applied directly in secondary schools, through the brigades.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the vaccination program is universal and has been applied to both IMSS beneficiaries and the general population.
He also announced that another vaccination campaign against this virus will be carried out next year, focused on adolescents and called on parents to allow their daughters to have this protection and to go to medical units which, according to the location of the their school, correspond to them .
“In addition to vaccination, protection, the main recommendations are adequate counseling, sex education, especially the use of condoms in each of the sexual activities that people have and in women, once they start their sex life active, the study of cervical cytology or Papanicolaou should be performed annually to timely detect human papillomavirus,” he stressed.
Finally, he stressed the importance of teenage schoolgirls receiving this vaccine to be protected against HPV.
