Islamabad: The first lead in Pakistan’s general election is in favor of Imran Khan. Although counting of votes is progressing slowly, initial lead indications are in favor of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Independent candidates who contested for PTI are leading in most of the constituencies. The official result may be delayed. Counting of votes was affected by internet ban in the country. Imran Khan and his party claimed a clear lead in 154 out of 266 seats. The PTI alleged that the opposition should accept the verdict and that the opposition and the army are trying to subvert the result. In many parts of the country, PTI supporters started jubilation. PTI candidates contested as independents as it is forbidden to contest on the party symbol. Imran Khan, who is in Rawalpindi jail and denied the right to contest, voted through postal ballot. His wife Bushra Biwi, who is in jail with Imran, could not vote.
