Imran Khan may be arrested today; Police to overcome the protest of party workers

Lahore: Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and head of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party, is reported to be arrested today. Geo News has reported that the police will arrest Imran within 24 hours as per the instructions of the Islamabad court. The court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Imran in the case of threatening a woman judge.
The case against Imran is that he threatened Judicial Magistrate Seba Chaudhary and policemen during a rally held at F9 Park on August 20.

The court directed Imran to appear for trial in the case, but he refused. An arrest warrant was issued against Imran after he failed to appear in court several times. Imran informed the court that he is physically unwell and cannot appear in court. He also said that he can be a part of court proceedings through video call. Rejecting this plea, Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim ordered the arrest of Imran. Imran currently has non-bailable warrants from two courts. A police team had reached near his residence in Lahore to arrest him but had to return due to protests by party supporters. The police returned during the protests after being told that Imran Khan was not at home.

However, when the police reached the house, Imran Khan had tweeted criticizing Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and former General Bajwa. He addressed the party workers in front of the house. Imran had also raised the allegation that his life was threatened by those who were supposed to protect him. The court had previously issued an arrest warrant against Imran in connection with the Toshakhana case. The case against Imran is that he bought the foreign gifts received by him from the Tosha Khana department under the legal exemption and sold them at a profit of crores and hid this from the income tax return and the Election Commission. Toshakhana is the department where the gifts received by the rulers of Pakistan are kept.
