The Welfare, Housing and Care working group is active within the Federation of Wassenaar Elderly Organizations. The working group works according to an annual plan and we are committed to achieving concrete goals.
The well-being and care of elderly people with dementia has our specific attention. What can we do so that elderly people can continue to live in their own living environment for as long as possible despite the diagnosis of dementia?
Dementia is a complex condition that not only affects memory, but also affects the daily lives of those affected. The well-being of elderly people with dementia depends on various factors, such as social interaction, stimulation and physical activity. An adapted living environment is vital for elderly people with dementia.
Creating a safe and recognizable environment helps reduce disorientation and anxiety.
Effective care for elderly people with dementia requires connecting many aspects, such as physical and mental. It is essential that caregivers are trained to understand the specific needs of people with dementia. An integrated approach requires cooperation between welfare, housing and care organizations. Policymakers and healthcare professionals must work together to ensure seamless transitions between home care, nursing homes and other care settings. The well-being, housing and care of elderly people with dementia are a complex but extremely important issue. By understanding the unique needs of this group and through collaboration between different sectors, we can strive to create an environment in which elderly people with dementia receive the best care and support for the highest possible quality of life.
To this end, the working group holds discussions at least twice a year with welfare, housing and care organizations within our municipality and with the official and administrative organization in Wassenaar. For example, last week we had a good conversation with the always approachable committee member, Marvin van der Nat (PvdA) of the People and Society committee of the city council. Marvin has a good overview of political developments and is therefore well able to explain current issues such as the new social policy, including respite care, and the new poverty policy. Next month we will speak again with the housing organization about Knarrenhoven in Wassenaar, among other things.
