New Tram Line in Prague 6 Expected to Improve Traffic
Prague 6 municipal district announced that the newly opened tram line is expected to significantly improve the regularity of buses and individual traffic on Evropská Street.
The line, which runs between Nádraží Veleslavín and Dejvická, used to be served by vehicles such as 15T, T2, K2, T3, T6, and historical trams. The luxurious T3 Coupé tram was also visible on the line, although tickets for this particular vehicle were sold out.
The 2.3-kilometer-long track with five stops starts from the current loop at Divoká Šárka and goes along Evropská Street before turning into Vlastina Street, where 170 trees will be planted by November. At the end of the tracks, in the Na Dlouhém Lánu residential area, a parking house for 290 cars will be built to replace the parking spaces lost due to construction. The parking house will operate under the blue zone resident parking system. The construction deadline for the parking house is currently unknown.
In the following weeks, finishing works will be carried out on the tram line, according to the municipal district. Due to the unfinished sidewalks, one lane towards the city center will be closed from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm until December. Additionally, the construction of trolleybus overhead lines for line 119 leading to the airport will restrict traffic in this part of the city until February of next year. Prague 6 Municipal Police is planning safety lectures for children regarding the new tram operation next week.
Apart from this line, Prague Public Transit Company has also completed the tracks from Modřany to Libuše and from Barrandov to Slivenec this year. As Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) previously stated, the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge, which will be part of the tram circuit, is still ongoing. We are also looking for a contractor for the upper end of Wenceslas Square and then we are planning to extend the line to Arkády Pankrác in Prague 4, added Hřib.
