Improving Sanitation and Drinking Water Networks: France Relance Provides More Than 1.2 Million Funding for 3 Projects in TPM Territory

More than 1.2 million in funding from the Water Agency via France Relance has been provided for the improvement of sanitation and drinking water networks.

The TPM Metropolis had requested the Water Agency two years ago, three projects on the territory had been selected according to their maturity, financed up to 50%:

Sanitation, fight against the intrusion of parasitic clear water: Toulon, La Seyne-sur-Mer, Six-Fours-les-Plages, La Garde, Hyères;
Drinking water, fight against leaks and improvement of network performance for the Eastern sector: Carqueiranne and La Crau;
Drinking water, fight against leaks and improvement of network performance for the Center sector: Le Pradet.

In concrete terms, these operations on the networks of the Metropolis for a total amount of works of 2.5 million euros, made it possible to gain 10 to 15% of the volume of parasitic clear water in the sanitation networks; and achieve drinking water savings of approximately 1,100 m³ per year in Carqueiranne, 1,080 m³ per year in La Crau and 5,200 m³ per year in Le Pradet.

3 water-sanitation operations in the Métropole benefit from the France Relance plan

Under France Relance*, the Rhône Méditerranée Corse Water Agency has selected 3 projects to improve sanitation and drinking water networks in the TPM territory, financed up to 50%. The projects were selected for their maturity; expenditures to be incurred over two years, from 2020 to 2022.

These operations concerned the territories of:

Toulon, La Seyne-sur-Mer, Six-Fours-les-Plages, La Garde, Hyères (sanitation)
Le Pradet, La Crau and Carqueiranne (drinking water)

Type of intervention Eligible cost of the project Amount of aid France Relance
Drinking water supply East sector €835,997 €417,998 50%
Renewal of wastewater networks
(fight against clear water) €1,185,700 €592,850 50%
Drinking water supply Center Sector €492,500 €246,250 50%

Fight against clear water intrusions in sewerage networks, 9 worksites in La Seyne-sur-Mer, Six-Fours-les-Plages, Toulon, La Garde, Hyères

The diagnosis of the wastewater collection network highlights the presence of permanent parasitic clear water. These infiltrations lead to over-volumes to be transported and processed, and a saturation of the network, likely to cause malfunctions and overflows. The Métropole has embarked on a program to renew the wastewater networks. Sensitive sectors are identified by prior investigations: metrology, night routes, video inspections, etc. The operation having benefited from France Relance support concerns 9 worksites relating to sections of gravity collectors, dilapidated and degraded, on which the diagnoses have highlighted evidence of clear water inlets. The structures have been the subject of renewal or rehabilitation work using the trenchless technique, as well as replacement of manholes.
*In September 2020, to deal with the Covid-19 Coronavirus epidemic, the Government launched the France Relance system: an exceptional economic recovery plan of 100 billion euros – including 40 billion in European contributions – in order to recover quickly and sustainably the French economy around three aspects: ecology, competitiveness and cohesion.

The result of this work is a reduction of around 10 to 15% in the volume of parasitic clear water in the sectors concerned.
