Improving Quality and Efficiency of Atrial Fibrillation Care: A Transmural Approach

Patients with chronic atrial fibrillation (AF) are referred to secondary care more often than recommended by the NHG standard Afib (2017) or remain under supervision there for longer than necessary. With the project, the parties want to treat more in the first line and where necessary to refer to the second line.

Higher quality

“To achieve this, transmural agreements are needed and a shift of expertise from the 2nd to the 1st line”, according to the parties. “The aim is to improve the quality of AF care in the 1st line, because patients are recognized earlier, diagnosed and better monitored. This at the same or reduced costs and at the satisfaction of care provider and patient.”
