Improving Healthcare Services and Attracting Professionals in Metz-Thionville

In what state did you find the CHR of Metz-Thionville?

“I found very dedicated professionals, very attached to their service, whether in Mercy, Thionville, Hayange, Briey, Boulay or Creutzwald, Jury-Lorquin. I also chair the regional hospital group. It must be admitted that the long pandemic has done a lot of harm. I’ve been doing this job for 25 years, and this is the first time I’ve seen health professionals stop. I want to re-enchant professionals, caregivers, doctors, and all the others. Make sure they do well in their job. »

How do you intend to operate this re-enchantment?

“I am currently working with the teams to launch an attractiveness plan, in order to attract and retain healthcare professionals. We have schools for nurses and midwives… First of all, young health professionals have to stay in their course. It’s up to us to make them love the job. »

How many vacancies do you currently have, does this mean the closure of certain services?

“Today, we lack 150 nurses and 40% emergency doctors. On the other hand, no service is closed whether in Metz or Thionville. Beds have closed in some departments, some are reopening. »

Are you going to work with the other private health establishments in the territory?

“Given the state of health in France, you have to have a disruptive vision. Open up and build bridges with colleagues, from the public, from the private sector, from the Unéos group, from Claude-Bernard. We recently had sick leave on digestive surgery, we had support from colleagues from other establishments. »

What are your priorities ?

“In the foreground is the map of attractiveness and personnel, then it is a question of accompanying the architectural subjects: the construction of psychiatry here in Mercy which will have emergencies, in Jury, the complete reconstruction of a new hospital. In Briey, the regional health agency (ARS) has allocated funds to rebuild the site which is too dilapidated. The last point is university education. »

The university dossier is not progressing. In its report, the IGAS sets targets for 2,024. Are you confident?

“University is a way to be more attractive to doctors. Now it is necessary to ensure that the two establishments, the CHU as the CHR are win-win. We have a methodology to build together. Appointments are made. »

The state of the emergency department?

“All the recruitments announced in Bel-Air have been kept. We have set up a paramedic Smur. We still need doctors. »
