“Improving Airport Safety: Kualanamu Airport SOP Evaluation After Tragic Incident”

The government asked the operator Kualanamu airport evaluating and improving the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP). This is the aftermath of an incident where a woman died after falling from an elevator at the airport.

“Improving operational procedures to always ensure aspects of safety, security and service as well as internal human resources at Kualanamu Airport,” said PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi Head of Communications Dedi Al Subur in his official statement, Sunday (30/4/2023).


“Procedure improvements include operational procedures for double-sided elevators and procedures for security facilities including CCTV. The signs inside the double-sided elevators are increased and the safety aspect is further improved. Supervision through CCTV must be carried out by Avsec personnel more strictly,” he added.

In addition, Dedi Al Subur said that improvements to procedures were also carried out for procedures related to maintenance of airport facilities and signs at other facilities.

Dedi Al Subur added that PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi asks for the support of the community and stakeholders so that Kualanamu Airport can provide the best service by prioritizing security and safety aspects.

Meanwhile, VP of Corporate Communications PT. Angkasa Pura II Cin Asmoro said he supports the efforts of PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi in taking steps to improve procedures at Kualanamu Airport.

“PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi has carried out improvements to operating procedures and repairs to airport facilities, Angkasa Pura II strongly supports this step,” explained Cin Asmoro.

Refinement of procedures and improvement of facilities at all airports including Kualanamu Airport must always be improved by conducting periodic evaluations.

Previously, the Ministry of Transportation reprimanded the Kualanamu Airport operator regarding the incident when a woman fell to her death from an elevator. The Director General of Civil Aviation, M Kristi Endah Murni said that his party had communicated with PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi as the single responsible person (single accountable) for operations at Kualanamu Airport.

“We have spoken with the person in charge of airport operations, in this case Angkasa Pura Aviation. For this reason, I order them to further improve the safety, security and comfort aspects at the airport and immediately make repairs to the damaged facilities,” said Kristi in a written statement. Sunday (30/4/2023).

Separately, the Special Staff of the Minister of BUMN, Arya Sinulingga, said that an evaluation of the SOP was carried out to determine the location of the error. Then, as an effort to make improvements in the future.

“We ask the management of Kualanamu Airport to evaluate their SOP as well so that they know where the error lies and where they can also make improvements to the existing conditions,” he told the media, Sunday (30/4/2023).

Accordingly, his party supports the police in investigating this case. He said this was so that issues related to this incident would become open.
