Improving Accessibility of Ports: Bremen Port and Transport Industry Demands Action from Politicians

The Bremen port and transport industry is demanding steps from politicians to improve the accessibility of the ports from the land side. The federal state should work with its neighbors to ensure that the hinterland connections are expanded everywhere, said Werner Pöser, executive board member of the Bremen Port and Logistics Agency (BHW), on Wednesday, June 14th. The association brings together around 220 medium-sized companies in Bremen that are active in the maritime economy and logistics.

“We need reasonable access for heavy transport in our area,” Pöser said. In the Hanseatic city, the poor condition of the bridges over the Weser often force detours. According to him, there are also problems with the approval of heavy transport in the interaction between Bremen and Lower Saxony.

According to a survey, the BHV member companies hope that the future Bremen Senate will return responsibility for the ports to the economic department. A department for the economy, ports and national transport is needed, said Pöser. For the past four years, the ports have been managed by SPD Senator Claudia Schilling for reasons of party representation. She is also responsible for science and justice. The economic department was headed by Kristina Vogt (Left Party).

In order to remedy the lack of trainees, specialized BHV members want to offer cross-company training in the future, BHV Managing Director Petra Lüdeke also announced.
