Improvements to Jakarta International Stadium for 2023 U-17 World Cup

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) said that the work to improve the Jakarta International Stadium (HE) continued to be carried out until the eve of the U-17 World Cup. JIS Stadium is one of 4 stadiums agreed by FIFA as the location for the U-17 World Cup

“It’s still running, it’s been progress since yesterday,” said the Main Director Jakpro Iwan Takwin on Monday, 7 August 2023, as quoted from Between.

Improvements were made to a number of JIS stadium facilities, such as area access, player access and other facilities. “The target is for everything to be finished by October,” said Iwan.

Regarding the JIS turf, which was recorded by FIFA, Iwan said that he had communicated with the government to check it. He said FIFA plans to come again in the near future to see the condition of the stadium grass.

“There has been communication and it has been checked. They will come again tomorrow, these weeks, to see the progress and treatment,” he said.

Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir said FIFA had agreed that the 2023 U-17 World Cup in Indonesia would be held in four stadiums. The four venues are the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in Jakarta, Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Manahan Solo Stadium and Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya.

The government holds a JIS renovation meeting

Erick also revealed a cross-ministerial coordination meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono and Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono on Wednesday, August 9 2023. They will discuss preparations for JIS renovation as one of the arena submitted for the 2023 U-17 World Cup.

“Mr Basuki invited me, Mr Menpora, Governor of DKI Jakarta to meet again to prepare for FIFA’s visit on August 26,” he said when met at the Indonesia Arena Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday, August 7 2023.

FIFA previously visited Indonesia to check the readiness of four stadiums which are projected to be the venue for the 2023 U-17 World Cup. On his first visit, FIFA provided various notes of improvement, especially for JIS.

Erick said the world soccer federation requested that the JIS grass be repaired. In addition, access to the arena also needs to be added.

“Earlier, Mr Basuki told me that Jakpro would renovate parts of JIS because this is indeed an asset owned by DKI, even though the central government is assisting the asset because the construction uses PEN (National Economic Recovery) funds, but the central government will help those outside,” said Erick .

FIFA Comes Again on August 26th

FIFA will again send teams from Australia and Europe to return to Indonesia on 26 August 2023. During that visit, FIFA will ensure that all agreements have been completed, from stadium readiness to administration. Those are some of the things that will be the main focus in his arrival later.
