Improvements in the Dominican consulate: reduction in some procedures

Some procedures of the Dominican Consulate in our city will be cheaper from now on.

“That is very good, very grateful for that because there are people who do not have the money to make their passports,” said a visitor to the consulate.

In addition to the price reduction, the consul ordered the delivery of passports to be expedited from six to a maximum of three weeks. The hours of assistance to the public are also extended.

“So we have been doing, attending to a cry, to a demand, to an attention without sacrificing the services that is the important thing,” explained the consul general in NY, Eligio Jáquez.

Along with passports, the discounts apply to the issuance of a route letter and for dual citizenship, for those children of Dominicans born outside the island.

“With the intention of collaborating to make services more affordable,” added Jennise Rodriguez, from the Dominican consulate.

Mercedes Sánchez has already received the new rate in her process of applying for Dominican citizenship.

“I am excited about the benefits of being also Dominican, officially right now and also to present the ID to my family to my brothers and say ‘look, I know I was born here but now I am Dominican,'” said another visitor to the consulate.

A route letter that previously cost $ 135 now costs only $ 100. Obtaining dual citizenship now costs $ 135, down $ 175.

And those who benefit most from these discounts are the Dominicans who request services at the consulate’s satellite offices.

Among them the Bronx, Albany and Paterson, in New Jersey, where prices were higher. For example, issuing a passport could cost up to $ 200, now it is only $ 130.

“In these difficult moments, that they accommodate us a little that is a blessing,” said another visitor.

With these changes, it is sought to equalize the rates regardless of the place of issue. As a complement, an open door policy has been implemented.

“Anyone who wants to speak to the consulate or the consul to suggest ideas that can improve service, communication and make our relations more efficient,” said Consul Jáquez.
