There are some people who will not speak Latvian on principle, and for them, of course, nothing can and will not change, but relations with those non-nationals who were neutral have improved. Many Russians I know are against the war and are becoming more loyal.

We have an acquaintance who has been living in Latvia for six months, and she insists that we communicate with her in Latvian.

We have souvenirs from Latvia at work, recently also a lot of souvenirs with Ukrainian symbols, and in the workplace we have to hear a lot of derogatory remarks from people of Russian nationality in connection with the symbols and souvenirs of both countries. But otherwise everything is fine, I don’t really feel any negative attitude at all.

I work in a school, and we have a lot of Russian children. Even if a child does not learn Latvian when he comes to school, usually within half a year he has already learned to speak. Russian may still be used in mutual communication, but you know they know Latvian very well. If 30 years ago we had only switched to the Latvian language in schools, we would not have such problems at all. It was a big mistake not to require education only in the national language.
