Twitter is going to make public the algorithm with which it recommends tweets to its users. The code used for that will be released on March 31st “open source“, tweeted owner Elon Musk Friday.
According to Musk, Twitter’s algorithm is now too complicated and is not fully understood internally.
“That transparency will be very embarrassing at first, but should improve the quality of the recommendations in the short term,” the billionaire writes. “A simplified approach should make more engaging tweets appear. But we’re still working on it.”
By releasing the code, other developers can further develop the code. This also means that rivals can access the same code.
