For its second and last game late, UBB has largely won against Montpellier tonight with a score of 57 to 7, and is getting closer to qualifying.
Finally a good weather, finally a little public – a few hundred partners who came as part of their public relations – and a beginning of good atmosphere in this stadium which knows how to be so warm …
As expected, the Montpellier staff had, following its Challenge Cup final played this weekend, aligned this Tuesday evening in Chaban a mixed team, made up of experienced players and young players. If the match was a bit late to start, with a duel between the scorers Jalibert and Foursans as an aperitif (6-3 after 8 minutes), the fiery test of Nathanaël Hulleu (8 ‘) then of Santiago Cordero (20 ‘) propelled the game. Despite the two new penalties for Montpellier and the yellow card from Jandre Marais – sanctioned by Mr. Cayre for high tackle – the UBB drove the point home before half-time by sending its hooker Maxime Lamothe behind the line. On the restart, Maxime Lamothe scored his double on the same type following a nice collective turtle, before Santiago Cordero also doubled the bet (52 ’38 – 9). Yann Lesgourgues, entered in the place of a cramped Jules Gimbert, took part in the party by scoring a try (61 ’45 – 9), before Thierry Paiva – just back from injury -, then and brought the mark to 50 to 3.
With 10 points from its two late games, UBB climbs to 3rd place, tied with the current runner-up in the Top 14 Stade Rochelais, and consolidates its qualifying position for the finals. But there are two games left, heading for Toulon on Saturday evening!
