Along with the release of the large-scale Phantom Liberty add-on for Cyberpunk 2077, the developers have expanded the game world, added a new plot and opportunities for players, and also improved optimization on consoles. Technical experts from Digital Foundry decided to analyze how the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of the game now works and shared their results with the community. It seems that the most “powerful” console, Xbox Series X, is again experiencing performance problems, while the PS5 shows stable frame rates and high-quality images.

Technical analysis of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty shows a noticeable improvement in the game’s performance on all consoles. The authors have clearly worked on additional optimization, increasing stability and frame rate in all modes. Journalists had the most questions about the version on the Xbox Series X, which, although it has become better, is still inferior in performance to the version on PS5.

Following the release of Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update, the game’s resolution has reportedly been reduced on all consoles and modes. The following values are now observed on PS5 and Xbox Series X:

Performance Mode

PS5 – from 1008p to 1440p, which increases to 1800p due to upscale Xbox Series X – from 1152p to 1440p, which increases to 1800p due to upscale Xbox Series S – from 648p to 900p, upscale increases resolution to 1080p

Quality mode

PS5 – 1440p, which increases to 2160p due to upscale Xbox Series X – 1440p, which increases to 2160p due to upscale Xbox Series S – 1080p, upscale increases the resolution to 1440p

According to experts from Digital Foundry, the reduction in resolution did not visually affect the quality of the picture. In some scenes, you may notice a blurry image, but the average user is unlikely to notice it while playing the game. But now Cyberpunk 2077 in performance mode runs stably at 60 FPS. In quality mode on all consoles, the average frame rate is always a stable 30 frames per second. In both cases, only the Xbox Series X stands out with drawdowns.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is available now on PC and consoles.
