Imprisonment of Defendants Involved in €15 Million Chase-Related Theft Case in the Netherlands

Eight robbers who stole millions of euros worth of precious metals and then opened fire on police officers in Amsterdam in 2021 were sentenced on Monday to between two and 15 years in prison.

It is reported by “European truth” with reference to AP.

According to the investigation, on May 19, 2021, in the northern suburbs of Amsterdam, robbers stole precious metals worth about 14.5 million euros from an armored vehicle.

After that, the police chase for the robbers began, which continued up to the village under the capital of the Netherlands. The shooting, as noted by the court, caused panic among the police and members of the public.

Five robbers were caught in the village after the shootout, three more were detained later. One of the participants in the robbery was shot dead by the police. The names of the defendants were not disclosed in accordance with the Dutch privacy law.

A 39-year-old man who shot at a police car with two officers during the chase was sentenced to 15 years, while his henchman involved in the shooting was sentenced to 12 years. Another, 45-year-old defendant, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for “planning and coordinating” the robbery.

Five other robbers were sentenced to prison terms ranging from two to ten years.

Even after the announcement of the verdict, law enforcement officers do not know where more than four million euros of precious metals remained.

At the beginning of the year, it became known that four of the six accused in the robbery of the Green Vault jewelery museum in the East German city of Dresden in 2019 made a deal with the court and a charge that would result in a reduced sentence.
