Imprisonment for assault of five NS employees at Zwolle station

A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to fourteen months in prison, six of which are suspended, for assaulting five NS employees. He also has to pay damages of 10,000 euros to the victims.

The incident was at Zwolle station at the end of January, reports RTV East. The man got angry when the employees approached him because he went through the check-in and check-out gate at the station at the same time as someone else. He kicked three employees in the head and two others were punched in the face.

The court in Overijssel blames the man from Schiedam for his behavior that resulted in five people being physically and psychologically injured. Two victims were temporarily unable to work after the abuse due to post-traumatic stress disorder.

According to the judge, the brawl also had an impact on other NS colleagues. They felt unsafe at work.

“It’s good that the law has taken its course here”, says Marjan Rintel, CEO of NS. “Our colleagues are committed day and night for our travelers. The impact of an incident such as the one at Zwolle station is enormous. Let our people do their work.”
