Impressive training grounds for firefighters are created

The state-owned construction sites in Wrzburg do not stand still despite the challenges posed by the corona pandemic, according to a press release from the State Building Authority in Wrzburg. The State Building Authority in Wrzburg is currently building the new training area and the accommodation building with vehicle hall for the State Fire School in Wrzburg.

The area stands out clearly: dozens of construction workers every day, excavators moving earth masses, cranes, the steel and concrete parts lift the site and the buildings take shape. After the completion of the practice hall in 2016, this is again a clear milestone for developments on the site. The expansion of the State Fire Service School is entering a new phase.

In addition to the large training hall, a new training area is being built, which is required to carry out practical training and training operations. In addition to the possibilities and facilities of the exercise hall, exercise objects and exercise houses are being built here that could not be installed in the large exercise hall for functional and economic reasons.

Realistic exercise assignments

The exercise objects are planned with real-life floor plans and built according to the type of use that is typical for each use. The practice area is intended to offer all possibilities for real-life training missions for fire and rescue missions, technical assistance of all kinds and ABC missions. Connection and control options for application simulation, such as lighting effects for fire, artificial smoke and noise, are integrated into the building and the grounds.

Among other things, a warehouse with rail connection, a semi-detached house with a house and demolition house, a fast food, a gas station, an auto repair shop, a device warehouse, a tool shed, a covered shelter as well as a farm house with a house, barn, crop hall and silo facility are being built. Various simulations can be carried out in each building.

The house, for example, is a typical family home. Rescue operations can be carried out here via the dormer window or the roof window. In the construction site house, construction site situations and partially destroyed buildings should be shown, for example after an explosion or a traffic accident. For this purpose, the ceiling and wall parts as well as the stairs can be moved hydraulically to simulate a collapse. Gas explosions can be realized in a specially equipped room. A permanently installed facade barley and a construction site crane round off the exercise options here.

Numerous scenarios

In addition to the large number of buildings, almost all types of engineering structures can be found on the site. An exercise pond with a stream and a bridge structure with an underpass in reinforced concrete were arranged so that numerous exercise scenarios can be made possible and linked. For example, the crash of a car from the bridge into the bung pond or the flooding of the underpass can be simulated.

In the traffic facilities, a track system runs from the exercise hall to a warehouse with a track connection. In the area of the intersection there is a floodplain that can be used to extinguish a vehicle or wagon fire. It can be erased with foam or water. The foam is collected in a foam retention basin specially designed for this purpose. The equipment with overhead lines and barrier systems completes the track system. In addition to the overhead line, an electrical overhead line with transformer showers is used for further exercise options.

To develop the site, water and gas supply lines, electrical and data cables as well as channels for draining the exercise and rainwater are laid. Most of the rainwater is collected in a rainwater retention basin and throttled into the urban canal. Part of the rainwater can be fed into the water cycle via infiltration systems.

Right next to the new practice area, the excavation pit for the planned new construction of the accommodation building with vehicle hall is being excavated. The building is 61 meters long, 15 meters wide and around 14 meters high. Among other things, a vehicle hall with ten spaces for large fire-fighting vehicles, a radio and sanitary room, a storage room with freight elevator and 52 apartments for course participants are planned. The new building is designed in such a way that a parking deck can later be connected to its south side.

The State Fire Brigade School in Wrzburg was built in several sections, from the 1950s to 2004. A master plan was developed in 2011. Since then, the fire brigade school has been extensively expanded on the approximately 22,500 square meters of neighboring property acquired in 2012.

So far, around 37 million euros have already been implemented in the following construction measures: new construction of the port facility, refurbishment and expansion of the branding house, construction of a new vehicle hall, construction of an energy center and construction of a training hall.

Completion in 2022

Completion of the new training area is planned for spring 2022 and the accommodation building with vehicle hall is planned for autumn 2022. The Free State of Bavaria is investing around 23 million euros in both measures.
