Antwerp

Four in a row! Telenet Giants Antwerp achieved this in Elite Gold of the BNXT League and against BAL Weert. The Sinjoren thus strengthen their top three place in Elite Gold. Nikola Jovanovic was the absolute star with 29 points and 7 rebounds.

Nikola Jovanovic was impressive “in the paint” and quickly led Telenet Giants Antwerp to an 11-3 bonus in the study round. The Belgian Noé Botuli scored for BAL Weert after splitting drives and limited the damage for the Dutch in the first half: 21-16.

The Giants opened the second quarter rather sterilely and were unable to widen the gap after 33-23. They saw BAL Weert return to a 36-30 score via Noé Butuli and Milhan Charles again. The Sinjoren retained control and headed halfway towards the dressing room with a 40-33 bonus.

The beginning of the second half brought a sharp start for the Giants: 42-33. BAL Weert, however, was stiff and continued to hold on: 46-40 and 59-55. Coach Ivica Skelin tried to get some more momentum into his team with a time-out. Rocky Kreuser Jackson scored with a bomb and Nikola Jovanovic dropped a three-pointer from his own half at the buzzer of the third quarter: 65-57!

Yoeri Schoepen made two straight three-pointers in the final quarter to lead the Giants to a 73-61 lead. Telenet Giants Antwerp now seemed to have launched and this time kept its gap intact via Rasir Bolton (17 points, 5 assists): 78-65 and 82-65.

In the final phase an eager and in defense strong Antwerp team BAL Weert is under control. Coach Ivica Skelin rotated his entire selection and eventually saw his Telenet Giants Antwerp triumph with a clear 89-68. Immediately 4 out of 6 in Elite Gold for the Antwerp team, who remain the second best Belgian team behind Ostend and Heroes Den Bosch. Important in view of the Belgian play-offs, which start on May 8.
