Impressions of the Chelsea vs. Arsenal Match: Artem Frankov Discusses Mudryk’s Performance

Well-known journalist Artem Frankov shared his impressions of the match of the 9th round of the English Championship between London’s Chelsea and Arsenal (2:2), in which the Ukrainian midfielder of Chelsea, Mikhail Mudryk, scored one of the goals.

Artyom Frankov – What impressions did the match itself leave behind?

— I expected more from Arsenal after the victory over Man City (1:0). Chelsea frankly missed the victory, which was caused by the mediocre play of Sanchez. When Chelsea absolutely outplayed Arsenal and had to score a third, the Spaniard presented a crazy gift and had to help out in the episode with Trossard’s goal. I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsenal scored a third in stoppage time.

I note the obvious progress of Chelsea under Pochettino, despite the full hospital. On the one hand, the team is extremely complete. Chukwuemeka, Chalobah, Jace, Chilwell, Broya, Lavia, Jackson and Nkunku were unable to play. The team has progressed a lot and not only demonstrates class with more modest teams. We could have won against Liverpool and Arsenal, but we weren’t lucky enough.

As for our team, Mudryk emerged victorious in a head-to-head duel with Zinchenko.

— Mudryk played one of the strongest matches in 10 months at Chelsea. You are happy?

— All this backstory that accompanied Misha’s transfer is slowly dying down. If you are already surfing the Internet, be prepared to hear not only good things about yourself. Receive fair reproaches, praise and hate. This is the essence of the modern virtual world. For me, the symbol of Mudryk’s relationship with the Chelsea fans was his celebration when he rushed to the stands. I really love such moments, they are incredibly alive.

— Was Mikhail’s goal accidental?

— I have an interesting story about this. When Andrey Shevchenko spent his first season in Milan, and in the Champions League match against Hertha (1:1), he assisted Bierhoff. I then wrote: “Shevchenko purposefully passed the pass or did he miss the shot?” Then we met in Yerevan at a national team match and I got a message from Andrei Nikolaevich, who took it very jealously and convinced me that he was passing the ball to Bierhoff. He said: “People read you, and then your relatives ask strange questions.”

Returning to the present, I am inclined to believe that Mudryk raised his head and threw the ball over Rai’s collar. Now Pochettino trusts him completely, and he is trying to thank the coach who believed in him.

— Zinchenko failed the match against Chelsea?

— On the one hand, if it’s for tactical reasons, that’s one thing. It’s another matter if there is no injury before the Champions League. We must not forget that Zinchenko has completely different functions in the club and the national team. If for Mudryk the trip to the Ukrainian national team was a plus, but here we see the opposite.

— After this match, can we say that Mudryk was right in choosing Chelsea over Arsenal?

— The story of his transition is already gradually moving away. For me, it was more telling how Misha celebrated scoring a goal with the fans. Moments like this are very special.

— Should we expect that Mudrik will finally break through?

“The main thing is that he doesn’t lose his shape.” which he is typing.

— How much will Mudryk score in a season and what will Chelsea achieve on all fronts?

“Chelsea has a very difficult schedule ahead. For this team, if not a place in the Champions League, then a return to European competition will be a completely acceptable result. If we talk about Mudrik’s indicators, he will be able to score his 10+5. Become a double figure for Chelsea.

— After the game with Chelsea, will Zinchenko keep his word to Mudryk?

– Considering how much time Mudryk spends in the gym, Zinchenko has very little chance. (Smiles). This testifies to the cool atmosphere that Rebrov managed to create in the Ukrainian national team.

— Who would you give the 2023 Ballon d’Or to?

— After the World Cup, Messi didn’t show anything special. Argentina’s success at the World Cup should be viewed solely as a team effort. I would give the ZM to Haaland, but most likely they will give the award to Messi.
