Lee Gyun-yong, candidate for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, reveals his impressions of the nomination
Q. How do you feel about the nomination?
″As you know, we will constantly reflect on what is a desirable court that meets the expectations and demands of the people and serves freedom and rights by restoring the recently collapsed judicial trust and trial authority. Despite the candidates, the hearing process and approval process of the National Assembly, the representative body of the people, remain, so please understand that it would be presumptuous to say anything more. thank you.”
Q. You expressed your concerns about the ‘politicization of the judiciary’?
″As you know yesterday, I was nominated among the (mother) awards, and looking at the newspapers, there is nothing more to say in particular, as it is almost stated in the article I wrote, and fairness and neutrality of trial are the basics of the judicial system in any country, so I will not say more. I have nothing to offer.″
Q. What is your position on the controversy over your friendship with President Seok-Yeol Yoon?
″I was asked that question during the hearing process last year, but since he was a friend of my close friend, and at the time, there were 160 students at Seoul National University’s College of Law, and there were only a handful of people studying for the exam, so I just knew it, so I can’t see it as a direct relationship. I think it’s difficult.”
Q. What is your position on the seizure warrant pre-trial system?
″I haven’t really thought about that part, so I’ll get to it later. thank you.”
