Impressions from playing the third Resident Evil Village demo

Remember:

Ours gallery screenshots from the January “Maiden” demo.

Ours impressions z „Village“ dema.

While last week we looked at the village in the Resident Evil Village demo, today Capcom has prepared a playable section for us in the castle.

Right at the beginning, I have to say that this time the 30-minute limit stressed me a lot more than in the last demo version. The castle is really large and I definitely did not explore everything that the demo could offer me. But the positive is that, unlike the part in the village, we played a lot and the cutscene was minimal. There was practically no story here, but this is understandable, given that this is a section at a later stage of the game.

I should definitely focus on the visual side. The game looks even better indoors than outdoors. I didn’t even notice the bouncing textures, which was a problem with the last demo, but also in RE7. This time I turned off ray tracing, so the framerate was beautifully smooth, without a single jam, and it had minimal effect on the image quality. Ray tracing is used here mainly for better lighting, and if you don’t put both versions side by side, you probably wouldn’t even know the difference.

The enemy was much more than in the previous demo, so I can better evaluate the shooting. I still think it’s very good, but I would have a complaint. I felt that the developers could easily add to the intensity of the adaptive triggers, which were relatively weak. Speaking of DualSense driver features, I’m a little taken aback by the absence of a haptic response, or at least I didn’t notice it. We’ll see how it goes in the final game.

As for the monsters themselves, it was the one that appeared in the trailers and official gameplay footage. It will last longer than it may seem at first glance and, like werewolves, it can use weapons. After killing several of them, I decided that I would rather run away, there are as few ammo as usual.

We looked at the merchant for the first time, though it was definitely not for the first time for Ethan, as the brief dialogue suggests. I inspected the goods in detail, improved the weapon a bit and sold the treasure I found along the way. By the way, Duke was in the “safe room” so we could listen to the soothing music that Capcom had prepared for this episode.

In addition to classic enemies, several vampires also appeared. We could only see Dimitrescu at a glance, but we were directly attacked by two of their daughters, who are definitely uncomfortable. They emerge from virtually nowhere and can disappear at any time. The game encouraged me to shoot a vampire, but I didn’t think it had any effect. So the best strategy is to escape. But here came my hesitation, I was a bit confused about the whole situation and I thought the game wanted me to get killed. But I shouldn’t have done that, then I had to play the whole demo again, so I ran the rest of the locations to get within the time limit.

I’m far from saying that this demo is bad, but I definitely liked the last one more. The castle is too large to explore in 30 minutes and you probably won’t enjoy playing much under this time pressure. The absence of the story is understandable, but as a result it is a great pity, because it was the story that fascinated me the most in the previous demo. Along the way, you will meet several puzzles for which this series is known, but none of them can be solved in the demo, which is a bit frustrating. But let’s wait for the final game. When we have enough time for everything, I am convinced that it will be a completely different experience.
