In court, the Harstad man in his 50s pleaded guilty to the relationship, writes Harstad newspaper, who is present in court.
The man is charged with defrauding the toll companies from January 2019 to 19 April last year. Then, according to the indictment, he drove around Harstad and the surrounding area without being registered at the toll rings.
He is said to have achieved this by rotating the original license plate with a blank license plate using a remote control inside the car. In this way, it became impossible for the toll company to be able to identify and register the car the man was driving.
The sign system was bought on holiday in Thailand, the man explains in court the newspaper.
– I have always been a Reodor Felgen type. This was just a fun thing to do to impress my friends. Cheating the system gave me an adrenaline rush. I only fitted it to one of my cars and it was mostly a gimmick. I had no financial motive, because it wasn’t the big money I saved, he says.
– The car is only used in winter
Prosecutor Siw Skogstad believes the man must be sentenced to 45 days’ suspended prison and a fine of NOK 20,000.
However, the man himself believes that there is no question of more than three years of defrauding the toll companies.
– The car in question is only used in winter. I have a sports car that I use during the summer months. Therefore, there is a maximum of six months a year. In addition, I take vacation in the winter. I may have saved a maximum of six or seven thousand in these years, he says.
