Much has been made of Gareth Bale’s recent revival at Tottenham Hotspur, but let’s not ignore Lucas Moura’s recent notable improvement.
The Brazilian has been asked to play in a slightly different position lately, operating as number 10 for José Mourinho, and he is used to playing that role like a duck overboard.
Lucas moved to the middle when the Spurs played West Brom in early February and, barring a first-half performance on the right wing against West Ham, he hasn’t looked back.
Since moving to the middle, he has scored twice and assisted in a goal, while his average WhoScored rating has been 7.17, a clear step up from his season average of just 6.51.

Moura has received a lot of praise since taking that position, and Pep Guardiola described him as “impossible to stop” last month.
Lucas had struggled earlier in the season. He had only one goal or one assist to his name in 16 appearances before switching positions against West Brom, and since then he has had three goal contributions in just six games.
Tottenham have seemed like a revived team in recent weeks, and while much of that has been attributed to Gareth Bale’s return to form, Lucas Moura’s rebirth as number 10 has been just as influential.

Mourinho seems to have finally found the key to unlocking the Brazilian international at Tottenham, and for the moment it seems almost inescapable.
If the Spurs are going to continue their charge as they attempt to break into the European venues at the end of the season, then Lucas’s form could be absolutely key to that.
