The Metropolitan Region Health Seremi confirmed this Saturday that a case of imported measles was detected in the capital. The authority took measures in view of the risk of “reintroduction” of the disease.
As reported by Seremi, this is a 42-year-old patient who made a trip to Armenia in July for academic reasons.
Once the case was confirmed, the Health Authority began an epidemiological investigation to determine the patient’s contacts and thus proceed with the vaccination, “due to the risk of reintroduction of this pathology In our country”.
Vaccination of some travelers
The authority explained that the case belongs to the risk group of those born in Chile between 1971 and 1981, who did not receive two doses of the vaccine or who did not get the disease.
For this reason, the authority called travelers born between those years to get vaccinated against this pathologysince Chile interrupted the transmission of the virus in 1993 and since then only imported cases have been detected.
