2025 Scholarships and Welcome Grants Overview
Effective November 18, 2024, the university’s scholarship structure will be adjusted as follows:
Scholarship amount:
New eligible student applicants for 2025 will receive an International Excellence Scholarship worth $6,000 per year, renewable until the end of their course. Scholarship information and terms will be published on the International Scholarship official website.
welcome grant:
A one-time welcome grant of $2,000 will continue to be provided in 2025, and places are limited.
This grant will be available to all non-quota undergraduate students who receive unconditional admission or a conditional COE (Except Bachelor of Nursing), as well as some specific postgraduate courses, and will be valid for 14 days until the quota is exhausted.
Unexpired grants that have been previously distributed will remain in effect until they expire.

Package Admission Holder
Students receive postgraduate certificate package admission to the master’s degree. Will students receive scholarships from GC?
Yes, scholarships will be available for GC package courses. The Welcome Grant is not available for PG degrees subject to specified exceptions.
Subsidies welcome,Which students are eligible for the Welcome Grant in 2025?
Eligible non-quota undergraduate freshmen (except Bachelor of Nursing).
Excludes online, sponsored, study abroad and exchange students, and internal transfer students.
The Graduate Welcome Grant will be limited to applicants for the following programs:

- Dual Degree MBA Program (Does not include Standalone MBA or MBA Global)
- Master in Data Science and AI
- Master of Professional Accounting
- Master of Nursing
- Master of Construction Management
- Master of Architecture
- Master of Health Economics Management Policy and related double majors
Can the Welcome Grant be deferred?
If a student has accepted and paid the deposit and confirmed their welcome grant is deferred to other admission batches in 2025, the welcome grant will remain valid as long as the university’s NOSC allocation is not full.
If students defer enrollment until 2026, the Welcome Grant will not apply.
Scholarship delayed,Can scholarships be deferred?
If a student holds an admission offer for the 2024 scholarship and chooses to defer, a new admission offer containing the scholarship amount for 2025 will be issued.
How to deal with paid students?
Students have until December 31, 2024 to accept and pay the 2025 deposit. If students decide to defer to another 2025 admission batch, they will retain their existing scholarship since payment has been made. Please note that late applications involving changes to courses will be assessed against the 2025 scholarships.

In a challenging and changeable climate, these changes reflect our commitment to student diversity and access to financial support, and allow the University of Newcastle to continue to offer a combination of affordable tuition, cost of living, and overall value for students.
In addition to scholarship changes, the University will also be implementing a deadline to accept existing offers under the current scholarship scheme.
Below, you’ll find an overview of the key updates, important dates, and a detailed FAQ to assist in communicating these new opportunities to prospective students. Please ensure students and their families are aware of these revised scholarship values and key timelines below.
As of 18 November 2024the University’s scholarship structure has been adjusted as follows:
- Scholarship Value: New eligible student applicants for 2025 will receive an International Excellence Scholarship valued at $6,000 per EFTSL, renewable for the program’s duration. Scholarship information, Terms and Conditions will be listed on the International Scholarship website.
- Welcome Grant: The one-off Welcome Grant will continue in 2025. The value of the Grant will be $2000 and will have a limited allocation. The Welcome Grant will be offered to all students who receive an Unconditional Offer or Conditional CoE for a non-quota Undergraduate Degree with the exception of Bachelor of Nursing, as well as some select Postgraduate degrees and will continue to have a 14-day expiry until the allocation is exhausted. Previously issued grants which have not yet expired will be honoured until the expiry date passes.
Existing Offers for 2025
If a student is already holding a Full Offer for 2025 with a 2024 Scholarship that has not been accepted, do they need to do anything?
- Yes. Students holding Full Offers for and intake in 2025 must accept and pay by December 31, 2024 to avoid a reassessment and reissue of their Offer.
- Following December 31st, Full Offers will be revised in line with the 2025 Scholarship values.
- Students are encouraged to accept and pay early to retain their current Scholarship offer.

New Applications
Who is assessed for the 2024 scholarship?
- Students applying after November 18, 2024 will be assessed for a 2025 scholarship.
- Since November 18, 2024 students holding Conditional Offers (not Conditional CoE) will be issued a Full Offer with 2025 Scholarship values when conditions are cleared.
Deferrals Prior to Acceptance
Students with a conditional or unconditional offer defers from a 2024 intake or a 2025 intake, prior to acceptance.
- Student will be assessed against the new 2025 scholarship.

Conditional CoE
Will Conditional CoE holders have Offers revised?
- Students holding a Conditional CoE will have the stated scholarship value honoured. If no scholarship was awarded, students will be assessed for a 2025 scholarship.
Packaged Offer Holders
Student has been offered a Graduate Certificate packaged with a Masters. Will the student receive the scholarship for the GC?
- Yes, scholarships will be awarded for GC packages. Welcome Grant will not apply for PG degrees outside of stated exceptions.

Who is eligible for the Welcome Grant in 2025?
- Eligible commencing students enrolling in non-quota undergraduate programs, with the exception of Bachelor of Nursing.
- Exclusions include online, sponsored, study abroad and exchange, and internal transfer students.
- Postgraduate Welcome Grant will be limited to students applying for:
- Juris Doctor
- Double MBA degrees (not MBA or MBA Global standalone)
- Master of Data Science and AI
- Master of Professional Accounting
- Master of Nursing
- Master of Construction Management
- Master of Architecture
- Master of Health Economics Management Policy and associated Double Degrees
Can the Welcome Grant be deferred?
- If a student has accepted and paid their deposit, securing their Welcome Grant, and then defers to another 2025 intake, the Welcome Grant will carry over as long as the University has not filled its NOSC allocation.
- If a student has accepted and paid their deposit, securing their Welcome Grant, and then defers to a 2026 intake, the Welcome Grant will not apply.
Scholarship Deferral
Can the Scholarship be deferred?
- If a student is holding an Offer with the 2024 Scholarship value and chooses to defer, they will be issued with a new Offer reflecting the 2025 Scholarship value.
- If a Student defers a 2025 Offer into 2026, the Offer will be assessed against the 2025 Scholarship value.
How are revised Scholarship Offers handled?
- Prior to December 31st, existing Full Offers will retain the 2024 scholarship, but deferrals into 2025 will be reissued with 2025 scholarship amount.
- From November 18, 2024 Conditional Offers will be issued carrying the 2025 scholarship values when conditions are cleared.
What happens to Paid students?
- Student has accepted and paid deposit for 2025 prior to December 31, 2024. Student decides to defer to another 2025 intake. As the student has paid, they will retain their existing scholarship. Please note that if deferral is requested with a request to change programs, the application will be assessed against 2025 scholarship.
- Student has accepted and paid deposit prior to December 31, 2024. Student decides to defer to 2026 intake. As the student has paid, they will retain their existing scholarship. - Student is currently enrolled in ELBP or a Packaged Program such as Foundation, Degree Transfer, EPP, PMP, etc. These students will retain the scholarship value offered in their original Packaged Offer. Please note that if deferral is requested with a request to change programs, the application will be assessed against 2025 scholarship.
To ensure the best outcome for your students with both their scholarship allocation and securing a place within a capped environment, you may want to:
- Review your pipeline for any students who are able to clear conditions and move immediately to a full offer. Advising the University of this ASAP will allow us to process Full Offers under the current scholarship.
2. Discuss with your Regional Manager any cases that may be eligible for a Conditional CoE request and submit for that ASAP to secure your student’s 2025 place and scholarship value.
3. Encourage all Offer Holders for 2025 to Accept prior to December 31, 2024 to avoid Offers being proactively reissued in line with the revised scholarship.
