When sending job applications to certain companies, candidates are often rejected by the HRD (Human Resources Department) for various reasons.

This rejection can certainly make applicants feel disappointed or frustrated, but it is important for job seekers to understand the reasons behind the rejection for further evaluation of job applications.

Indonesian Professional Human Resources Association (ISPI) Chairman Ivan Taufiza said that one of the main reasons why job applications are often rejected by companies is because there is a mismatch between the criteria that the company wants and the application.

“The question is the quality that is being sought, whether it can match the existing offer or not,” said Ivan detikcomMonday (7/10/2024).

Unfortunately, according to Ivan, many applicants do not understand the criteria that this company requires with its capabilities. So many of them send applications ‘only to be rejected’ by the company.

“I often see that Microsoft Office is the skill, that’s not a skill. Microsoft Office is a job, you have to be able to do it. Well, that’s an example, so often your friends can’t tell the difference to do the skills that are needed,” he explained.

In addition, Ivan said that many candidates were rejected by companies because their skills did not match expectations. Although the job application was initially accepted because it met the criteria required by the company.

However, when a test is given or the next stage of the selection process, it turns out that these abilities are considered insufficient to be accepted for work. This situation often occurs for general skills, such as foreign language skills.

“So a simple example, English skills for example. Most of the candidates are very technical, their English comes from school, we both know when they are asked to give a presentation,” Ivan said.

“So academically they’re very strong, good, their grades might be OK, but their English skills were all chicken and vegetables. Well, they didn’t pass, even though they wanted to to work in foreign companies,” he said.
