TABLOIDBINTANG.COM – Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia Dr. dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, DHSM, MARS., explained that the Covid-19 pandemic reinforces the importance of immunization according to a schedule to protect themselves, their families, and the community from dangerous and deadly infectious diseases. Immunization not only reduces the risk of illness, disability and death related to infectious diseases, but also supports national priorities such as education to economic development.
“The commemoration of World Immunization Week 2022 is a momentum to remind and invite everyone to be immunized, not to delay the schedule, to stay healthy and productive. Collaboration of all parties is needed in increasing the coverage of national immunization so that public health can improve,” he said in a virtual press conference at the 2022 World Immunization Week, Thursday (14/4/2022). Meanwhile, Plt. Director of Immunization Management of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, dr. Prima Yosephine, highlighted the challenges of immunization apart from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Besides the pandemic, the toughest challenge for the immunization program in Indonesia is to ward off negative news about immunization that discourages parents. We would like to invite all parties to better understand the importance of immunization to protect family health. The success of the national immunization program can only be achieved if people believe this is a safe and effective disease prevention solution,” said Prima.
Therefore, the Indonesian Allergy Immunology Association (Peralmuni) together with the Vaccines Business Unit at Sanofi Indonesia collaborated with the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Indonesian Influenza Foundation (IIF) to increase public awareness of the importance of complete immunization. These efforts include the COVID-19 vaccination CSR program for the general public at Green Pramuka Square (14 March to 25 April 2022) and a series of webinars held from 17 to 24 April 2022.
The chairman of the Peralmuni Center, Prof. Dr. dr. Iris Rengganis, Sp.PD-KAI., reminded, during the Covid-19 pandemic, WHO recommended influenza vaccination for vulnerable populations such as health workers, the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and those with certain chronic medical conditions. On that occasion, the Head of Medical, Vaccines Sanofi Indonesia, dr. Dhani Arifandi, stated, “Sanofi Indonesia is committed to being a trusted and integrated health service partner, both globally and in Indonesia.”
