BEIJING – Four archaeological sites dating back 3,600 years were discovered in the capital Beijing, Hebei Province is adjacent to Shaanxi and Henan Provinces.

Reporting from the South China Morning Post, this finding is thought to have come from the Shang Dynasty (1600 BC-1046 BC). These important finds included an indoor heating system, a trench for the city’s protection, as well as pottery ornaments and painted turquoise as a status mark.

“Sites belonging to the ancient Shang Dynasty (1600BC-1046 BC) were recently discovered in the capital city of Beijing, adjacent Hebei Province, as well as northwestern Shaanxi province and Central Henan province,” the website said.

Discoveries from these sites paint a historically valuable picture of city construction, social systems, funerary etiquette, and handicraft production of the second Chinese dynasty.

“The Bronze Age dynasty was also the first Chinese royal line to be supported by historical evidence,” he explained.

Among the finds were nine tombs of high-ranking nobles from the Later Shang Dynasty, the largest burial sites of their kind ever excavated in northern Shaanxi.
