Important Childhood Immunizations in Indonesia: What You Need to Know

Types of Required Childhood Immunizations

In 2022, the Ministry of Health will increase the number of mandatory routine vaccinations in Indonesia, from 11 vaccines to 14 vaccination.

Routine immunization is a government program that means people don’t have to pay money to get the vaccine, including the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.

The 11 types of vaccine used in the past include:

1. Complete the basic vaccination for babies aged 0-11 months

• 1 Month: BCG Polio 1, preventing the spread of tuberculosis and polio

• 2 months: DPT-HB-Hib 1 Polio 2, prevents polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, retanus, hepatitis B, meningitis, & pneumonia

• 3 months: DPT-HB-Hib 2 Polio 3

• 4 months: DPT-HB-Hib 3 Polio 4

• 9 months: Measles, prevent measles

2. Follow-up vaccination for infants aged 18-24 months

• 1 dose of DPT-HB-Hib vaccine, acts to prevent diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, pneumonia and meningitis

• Measles rubella vaccine 1 dose

3. Continue to vaccinate primary school children through the annual National Immunization Month program

The 3 additional vaccines are; Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV), Rotavirus Vaccine, and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccine.
