“Importance of Proper Hydration: Signs of Dehydration and How to Avoid It”

SuaraNusantara.com – Dehydration occurs when the body loses too much fluid compared to what it takes in.

This can occur as a result of not drinking enough, excessive sweating, or certain medical conditions that cause the body to lose fluids quickly.

Fluids are very important for the body because they play a role in maintaining body temperature, facilitating the function of the body’s organs, and helping to transport nutrients and oxygen to the body’s cells.

Therefore, dehydration can have a negative impact on health, such as dizziness, headaches, muscle cramps, constipation, to more serious conditions such as seizures, kidney damage, and can even be fatal if not treated immediately.

It is important to maintain adequate fluid intake every day, especially during physical activities that require lots of fluids or in hot and dry weather conditions.

Here are some signs a person is dehydrated:

  1. Dry and dull skin: Skin becomes dry, dull and inelastic when the body lacks fluids.
  2. Excessive thirst: Excessive thirst, especially when drinking water but still feeling thirsty.
  3. Dry mouth and throat: When you are dehydrated, you secrete less saliva and dry your mouth and throat.
  4. Canker sores or chapped lips: Lack of fluids in the body can also make lips chapped and can trigger canker sores.
  5. Dark urine: Urine that is dark yellow or brown indicates that the body is dehydrated.
  6. Dizziness or headache: Lack of fluids in the body can affect the electrolyte balance that affects the performance of the brain, which can cause dizziness or headaches.
