There must be a mandatory recognition for installers of solar panels. In this way, abuses must be prevented now that the number of bunglers in the sector is increasing. These are companies that flout the rules and are often not suitable for the job.
According to Techniek Nederland, 30 percent more solar panels were installed in the past year than in 2021. “This rapid growth also attracts companies that do not take quality and safety very seriously,” says chairman Doekle Terpstra.
Figures from the Labor Inspectorate show that dozens of accidents occurred last year when installing solar panels. The sector organization believes that a mandatory accreditation scheme for solar power installers can prevent many unsafe situations.
Solar power installer is now still a liberal profession, so anyone can install solar panels. Terpstra emphasizes that this is bad for the image of the sector. “The recognized, skilled solar power installers are affected by this. It also hinders the energy transition. People must be able to rely on solar panels that are installed safely and work properly.”
Techniek Nederland also states that the vast majority of companies that install solar panels provide good and safe work. At the same time, the number of reports from incompetent companies and self-employed persons is growing. Terpstra points out that consumers themselves also have a responsibility. “Everyone can understand that installing and connecting solar panels is technical craftsmanship. So you should only have this done by a recognized company. That way you prevent problems.”
