Importance of Flu Vaccination for High-Risk Individuals: Recommendations and Updates

People in risk categories, such as those with chronic diseases of the respiratory system, cardiovascular system and diabetes, people over the age of 65, medical personnel, police officers, pregnant women and children from 6 months must get vaccinated against influenza.

According to doctor Ștefan Gheorghiță from the National Agency for Public Health, this year the flu vaccination will start in October.

There are no contraindications to the flu vaccine and no post-vaccination reactions have been recorded

“Vaccination starts from October-November, optimal terms for the formation of immunity. A tetravalent vaccine, recommended by the World Health Organization, will be used, which has four components – AH1N, AH3N2 and two type B. The medical staff already has the list of people to be vaccinated. There are no contraindications to the flu vaccine, and no post-vaccination reactions have been recorded,” declared the doctor of Free Europe.

The Republic of Moldova has already received a batch of 200,000 doses of the Influvac Tetra flu vaccine, with a dose of 0.5 ml in a pre-filled syringe, produced in the Netherlands, which cost over 20.5 million lei, money allocated from the funds of the prophylaxis of the National Medical Insurance Company.

In the 2022-2023 season, 1,980 cases of seasonal flu and four deaths of unvaccinated people were registered in the Republic of Moldova, while in the previous season there were 337 cases of flu.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, no cases of influenza were recorded. Specialists explained this by the fact that people then respected the measures of protection and prevention of the spread of the virus.

How do we protect ourselves from the flu?
