Importance of Baltic States’ Unity and Synchronization in Geopolitical Conditions: Declaration Signed

The declaration signed today emphasizes that it is extremely important for the Baltic States to act together in synchronization projects. “We have to keep in mind that we have a common enemy on the other side of the eastern borders, so the unwavering unity of the Baltic states is of decisive importance in the current geopolitical conditions,” the document says.

The declaration envisages a commitment to maximize political support for desynchronization from the Russian-controlled IPS/UPS network and to achieve that the electricity supply systems of the Baltic States are accelerated to be synchronized with the continental European network in February 2025.

Kariņš points out that today Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have agreed on faster progress towards the synchronization of electricity supply networks with the continental European system, while simultaneously implementing measures to disconnect from the Russian-controlled IPS/UPS system.

“By implementing the agreement reached, we will integrate more closely into the European economic space and strengthen the energy independence of the Baltic States, which is of significant geopolitical importance, considering the brutal and merciless war of our eastern neighbor against Ukraine,” emphasizes the Prime Minister.

Also, the prime ministers of the Baltic states express their support for closer cooperation between the transmission system operators (TSOs) of the Baltic states and the agreement concluded on August 1, which includes the main technical, organizational and legal measures to ensure the readiness of the electricity network systems of the Baltic states for desynchronization from the IPS/UPS network and synchronization with continental European network in February 2025.
