Import prices of electricity, gas or oil continue to rise significantly

The December increase in import and export prices was more pronounced than in November. In the penultimate month of last year, prices in exports rose by 10.5 percent year on year and in imports by 12.8 percent.

In addition to a significant increase in the price of mineral fuels and energy, the increase in export prices in December was due to a rise in the price of other raw materials by more than half, especially the rise in the price of wood and scrap metal. They also paid extra for chemicals and semi-finished products, such as iron and steel. Only the prices of beverages and tobacco fell by two percent.

In addition to fuels and energy, the increase in other raw materials by 19.7 percent, especially raw rubber and wood, also contributed to the almost 14% increase in import prices. Statistics recorded an increase in prices of 16.3 percent for iron, steel and other semi-finished products and less than 16 percent for chemicals. Import prices did not fall for any of the monitored types of goods in December.

For the whole of last year, export prices increased by 5.8 percent on average compared to 2020. Import prices rose by 6.1 percent. “This development was significantly influenced by mineral fuels, which grew by 57.9 percent in exports and by 68.8 percent in imports. Prices of electricity, gas, petroleum products, wood, iron and steel increased in particular,” said the head of department. CZSO statistics on industry and foreign trade.

Last year, statistics recorded a year-on-year decline in import prices of machinery and transport equipment by 1.6 percent. Export prices fell only for beverages and tobacco by 3.2 percent and industrial consumer goods by 0.5 percent. On the contrary, prices of mineral fuels and energy, other raw materials and semi-finished products rose.
