In Mexico, the slaughter and slaughter of animals to obtain meat for human consumption are carried out in special facilities called slaughterhouses.
The environmental impacts generated by the trails can include the presence of harmful fauna in and around it, bad odors and impact on the quality of life of the neighboring living areas, greenhouse gases, decrease in dissolved oxygen in the bodies of water where wastewater is discharged, as well as the drastic alteration of aquatic flora and fauna.
For this reason, one of the priorities of the Salamanca municipal slaughterhouse is caring for the environment, as it seeks to ensure that the waste that occurs when the animals are sacrificed does not directly impact the Salamanca environment.
The Director of Municipal Public Services David Pérez Alvarado commented that organic waste such as animal feces is taken in trucks to Michoacán, which is used for the fertilization of avocados, hair and some visors.
“We have a crematorium, however, other alternatives are being sought to manage this waste and not affect gas emissions to the environment (…) The blood is also taken to a place that makes food for dogs,” he said.
He expressed that an attempt has been made to improve the conditions of the municipal slaughterhouse to avoid contaminating and continuing to reuse all the waste that is needed when the animals are sacrificed.
